Burkina Faso gives the shout of Ipiranga.
The Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambela, today, March 3, 2023, invited Chad to be part of a federation project already started with Mali and Guinea-Conakry, his office said in a statement.
“Chad is closer culturally. We have cultural similarities. With Mali and Guinea we are in a process of federation”.
Tambela said on the sidelines of the celebration of the 28th edition of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou, which was attended by the Chadian Minister of Cultural Affairs, Historical Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, Abakar Rozzi Teguil.
“Why wouldn't Chad join us in this process? If Chad, with the power and experience of its army, joins this federation, we will be a force”.
“And we must do so with the general understanding, including that of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).”
“We are aware that we can live outside it [ECOWAS], even if it is not our desire”.

The Chadian minister, for his part, limited himself to assuring his support for Burkina Faso.
“Like all other countries in difficulty, Burkina Faso is getting back on its feet”.
“We have always been on the side of Burkina Faso and will continue to be”, assured Teguil.
On February 02, 2023, Tambela proposed to Mali, during a visit to this neighboring country, to constitute a “flexible federation” during the transition period of both States, governed by military junta.
A few days later, Burkina Faso and Mali, together with Guinea-Conakry, a country also governed by a military junta, opted to reinforce their tripartite relations at a meeting of their foreign ministers.
In recent months, both Burkina Faso and Mali have distanced themselves from their traditional partner and former metropolis, France, and have decreed the expulsion of their troops from their territories, while strengthening ties with Russia.
