Conference against Human Trafficking took place in Africa.
Africa hosted the High Level Conference against Human Trafficking which had financial support from the European Union for its realization. The event took place from 10 to 12 May 2022 in Dakar.
The conference
The Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Senegal, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Regional Office for West and Central Africa co-organized the Regional High Level Conference on Combating Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants, as part of the follow-up to the Niamey Declaration.
This regional meeting aims to bring together high-level representatives and focal points from the signatory countries of the Niamey Declaration, as well as member organizations and technical partners, in order to discuss the various advances in the fight against trafficking in human beings and the smuggling of migrants, as stated in the recommendations of the Niamey Declaration.
The conference will also make it possible to validate the next steps for the consolidation of the Permanent Mechanism and the monitoring of the commitments of the Niamey Declaration.
The Niamey Declaration
Several Ministers of Interior and Foreign Affairs from West African countries, the European Union, European countries, as well as international organizations, met on 16 March 2018 in Niger and adopted the Niamey Declaration.
This declaration aims to improve the coordination and operational efficiency of responses in the fight against trafficking in migrants and human beings between countries of origin, transit and destination, namely through the strengthening of data collection, international judicial cooperation and police cooperation.
