Morocco produces green hydrogen.

Morocco emerges as one of the best positioned countries for the production of green hydrogen, and may even influence the price, along with Australia, Saudi Arabia or the United States of America, according to the latest report by IRENA – International Agency for Renewable Energy.

The IRENA report

The report states that the increase in gas prices in Europe will have a direct influence on accelerating the transition to green energy, particularly for green hydrogen, thus presenting itself as an alternative to oil and gas.

Made from water and using renewable electricity, this resource is of interest to several countries on the planet, as it is part of the goals of sustainable development.

Even if profits do not reach the levels traditionally obtained by oil and gas producers, the green hydrogen production markets will develop in a regional rather than a global dynamic, with this new market being able to supply 12% of the global needs of energy by 2050, thus contributing to mitigating global warming, according to the same source.

In turn, Telquel magazine highlights that Morocco created, in 2021, a national hydrogen commission and published an action plan on green hydrogen, considering this “green gold” as a relevant resource for the national economy and a sector- key in development.

IRENA

It is recalled that IRENA is an intergovernmental organization that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future and serves as the main platform for international cooperation, a center of excellence and a repository of policies, technology, resources and financial resources. . knowledge about renewable energy.

IRENA promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy, including bioenergy, geothermal, hydroelectric, ocean, solar and wind in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low carbon economic growth and prosperity.
