 “What is really striking is how big the difference is between the temperature of the last 13 months and previous temperature records.”

“We are now in truly uncharted territory, and as the climate continues to warm, we are bound to see new records broken in the coming months and years.”

EU climate monitor director Carlo Buontempo said in a statement.

Impacts of Heat Waves

Every month since June 2023 has been ranked as the hottest on the planet since records began, compared to the corresponding month in previous years. Scientists say human-induced global warming is behind these unthinkable temperatures.

Scientists have also suggested that 2024 could surpass 2023 as the hottest year since records began, as climate change and the natural El Niño weather phenomenon that ended in April have further increased this year's temperatures, making it likely that future years will all be warmer than the last.
