Angolan athletes, African martial arts champions, were received at the Presidential Palace and presented the President of the Republic with two medals and a trophy, which made the highest body in the country proud, for their achievements and for being a demonstration that young Angolans are in the good way.

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, received at the Presidential Palace, 28 athletes, African champions, practitioners of judo, jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts who won 67 medals in African championships held this year in Angola, Algeria and Morocco.

During the reception ceremony for the African champions, two medals and a trophy were handed over to the President of the Republic.

“Dear athletes, it is a great honor for me, in my personal name and in the name of the Angolan people, to receive these medals from your hands”.

“Medals that symbolically represent all those gold, silver and bronze medals that the three modalities managed to win in the African championships”.

“Two of the modalities, judo and jiu-jitsu, have therefore managed to secure a place in the upcoming world championships”.

“This is a source of pride for Angola and a demonstration that our young people are on the right path”, said the President of the Republic.

 

The future

According to the president of the Angolan Judo Federation, Hermenegildo dos Santos, after Angola conquered top places in the African championships of the modality, with 29 gold medals, 22 silver and 16 bronze, the three modalities are qualified to participate in the championships. of the world.

“In the overall balance, for the African competitions there were 19 medals”.

"For the first time, we got African champions at all levels."

“We have one senior champion, two cadet champions and three junior African champions.”

“We are going to participate now, at the end of August, from the 24th to the 29th, in the world championship of cadets that will take place in Bosnia”.

“We are going with a team made up of 11 elements, nine athletes and two coaches”, explained Hermenegildo dos Santos.

At just 16 years old, the youngest of the group, she recognized that it was not easy to win international championships, but she was delighted by the recognition of President João Lourenço.

“It is a great honor for me to know that the President recognized our effort, our work, because it is not easy to get medals in African championships. These are very difficult tests!” he said.

Among the figures who attended the ceremony. the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto and the Secretary of State for Sports, Carlos Almeida, stood out.
