A Mo Ibrahim Foundation, announced that this year's Ibrahim Governance Weekend (IGW) will once again be face-to-face and will take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) and Radisson Blu Upper Hill in Nairobi, Kenya.

The IGW will bring together prominent African political and business leaders, civil society, multilateral and regional institutions and Africa's key international partners to debate the challenges and opportunities facing the continent in an ever-changing global environment.

After three years of holding the annual event virtually, the Foundation is excited to return to the continent for this year's edition of IGW and looks forward to discussing issues of critical importance to governance and leadership in Africa, in person, once again.

 

The weekend

Foundation representatives will provide information on themes and topics that will be discussed during the African Leadership Ceremony, the Ibrahim Governance Forum and the side events that will take place over the weekend.

The event will personally celebrate President Mahamadou Issoufou, former President of Niger and 2021 Laureate Ibrahim, and will include interventions on current challenges for African leadership.

Speakers will include President William Ruto of Kenya, President Sahle-Work Zewde of Ethiopia, Moussa Faki Mahamat, President of the African Union Commission, Charles Michel, President of the European Council and Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The debate will focus on Global Africa, discussing Africa's position in the world and the world in Africa, as well as exploring the continent's voice in the multilateral system. Ahead of the Ibrahim Forum, the Foundation will release the Forum 2023 Facts and Figures Document, which will help inform discussions throughout the weekend.

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation was established in 2006 by Sudanese businessman Mo Ibrahim with the aim of promoting the importance of political leadership and public governance and boosting economic and social development in Africa.

In addition to the Ibrahim Prize for Excellence in African Leadership, the Foundation is also responsible for the Ibrahim Index of African Governance which annually measures the quality of governance in 54 African countries by compiling statistical data and awarding scholarships and research.
