ToggleWorld Cup 2026: The final schedule is already known.
O World 2026 The tournament is now fully planned and promises to be the longest, most dispersed, and most media-covered in football history. FIFA has released the complete schedule for the final phase, fine-tuning times and stadiums to maximize global audiences and enhance the impact of this historic edition.
Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, described it as “the greatest World Cup ever”, highlighting the unprecedented nature of a championship played in three countries, with 16 cities and 16 stadiums, spread over five intense weeks of competition.
Among the points of interest revealed, the kick-off at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, with Mexico–South Africa, stands out. This iconic venue, where Pelé and Diego Armando Maradona achieved historic victories, thus returns to the center of attention.
The announcement of the schedule — transformed by FIFA into a media spectacle broadcast on social networks — reinforces the idea of a World Cup played both on the field and in the digital realm.
This competition will be a true marathon, demanding a continuous effort of endurance, especially for the African teams, who will face long journeys, challenging time zones and diverse weather conditions.
Calendar Details
After announcing the 12 groups, FIFA moved forward with the complete schedule for the 2026 World Cup, adjusting the game schedule to time zone differences and television markets, in a strategy that reinforces the global commercial ambition of the competition.
The opening match between Mexico and South Africa, at the Azteca Stadium, is one of the highlights of the program. The legendary Mexico City stadium, renovated for this edition, once again assumes the role of media epicenter as it becomes the starting point of the World Cup.
Portugal, placed in Group K, will be in action in the first few days. The Portuguese team, considered one of the strong contenders for the title of this 2026 World Cup, will make its debut in Houston on June 17 against the winner of the intercontinental playoff between DRC, Jamaica and New Caledonia.
The team returns to the field on June 23, again in Houston, to face debutant Uzbekistan, before closing the group stage against Colombia on the 27th in Miami, in a match that is expected to be highly demanding.
The presentation of the calendar was treated as a spectacle in itself. FIFA organized an exclusive ceremony, broadcast live on its digital platforms, called... Match Schedule Reveal.
The event, lasting over half an hour, was attended by figures such as presenter Andrés Cantor, Gianni Infantino, Manolo Zubiria, and former stars like Ronaldo, Alexi Lalas, Hristo Stoichkov, and Francesco Totti. The organization wanted to emphasize that, in the 2026 World Cup, even the simple announcement of the match schedule is part of a global entertainment strategy.
The African Challenges
South Africa
It makes its debut in the opening game at the Azteca Stadium. Then, on June 18th, in Atlanta, it faces the European winner of the... playoff (Denmark, Czech Republic, Republic of Ireland or North Macedonia). They will compete again on June 25th against South Korea in Monterrey.

Other countries
Algeria and other qualified potentials via playoffThey complete a set of teams forced to face a demanding schedule in terms of travel, climate, and the intensity of their opponents, where games are scheduled for times that favor large television markets, rather than the performance of the teams.
The Expansion of the World Cup
However, the expansion of the World Cup to 48 teams opened up space for greater African representation in the knockout stage, but the schedule confirms that nothing will be easy. Morocco will once again face major European teams, Senegal will face world champions, and Cape Verde will begin its journey against one of the strongest teams on the planet.
The other African teams will also have to prove that they can translate individual talent into competitive consistency against high-intensity opponents. Despite the challenges, with adequate logistical preparation, well-structured training camps, proper acclimatization, and intelligent rotation, the African teams can transform this World Cup into a new milestone in continental affirmation.
