Expo 2023 Doha, which had the theme “Green Desert, Better Environment”, started on October 2, 2023 and ended last Thursday, March 28, 2024. At the end of the exhibition, Angola and Cape Verde saw the its award-winning pavilions.

Angola was distinguished with the Programming Award, an award that represents Angola's efforts to significantly improve engaging content, with innovative programs, including cultural activities and B2B (electronic business between companies)

Meanwhile, the Cape Verde Pavilion won the theme and concept award. The sub-theme of Cape Verde's participation was focused on the transition to modern, resilient and sustainable agriculture, adapted to climate change

Angola


Angola was distinguished, last Wednesday March 27, 2024, with the award for best programming in the large pavilion category at Expo 2023 Doha, which took place from October 2 last year to March 28, 2024, in the capital of Qatar.

According to the certificate granted to the country, the award represents Angola's efforts to significantly improve engaging content, with innovative programs, including cultural and B2B (electronic business between companies) activities, aligned with the themes and objectives of the Expo.

He states that this recognition reflects not only the excellence of Angola's programming at the Expo, but also the commitment and dedication of his team at the pavilion in providing a memorable and enriching experience for visitors.

The award was presented by the general commissioner of Expo, Barber Bin Oma Al-Dafa, to the general commissioner of Angola for Expo 2023 Doha – Qatar, Albina Assis Africano, in the presence of the president of the International Bureau of Exhibitions (BIE), Alain Berguer, and the organization's general secretary, Dimitry Kerkentzes.

In an interview with the local press, Albina Assis Africano expressed gratitude for the distinction and said it was the result of hard teamwork, carried out with professionalism and care by the technicians present in the pavilion and the country in general.

“Our country’s mission is clear.”

“It is, essentially, to strengthen cooperation relations and attract investors from countries with potential that are of interest to Angola”.

“Something that, by their nature, international exhibitions provide,” he said.

During the ceremony, witnessed by more than four thousand people, including diplomats, businesspeople and other personalities, others were also awarded in different categories.

The President, Alain Berguer, and Secretary General Dimitry Kerkentzes, saw their effort of around six months pay off.

Angola inaugurated its pavilion at the International Horticultural Exhibition – Expo 2023 Doha on November 14, 2023 and celebrated its National Day there on February 4.

 

Cape Verde


The Cape Verde Pavilion at Expo 2023 Doha (Qatar) was awarded the Theme Award in the medium pavilions category at Expo 2023 Doha (Qatar).

It is recalled that Cape Verde marked its presence at Expo 2023 Doha, Qatar, with the motto “Green is the Way, Blue is the Destiny”, reflecting its identity and aspirations.

This theme celebrates the country's rich agricultural heritage, highlighting the importance of land in shaping its history and culture. At the same time, it highlights the deep connection with the ocean, symbolizing the use of Cape Verde's vast maritime territory as a driver of economic diversification and as a key element for more effective and beneficial integration in the region and the world.

The sub-theme of Cape Verde's participation focused on the transition to modern, resilient and sustainable agriculture, adapted to climate change. This approach highlighted the interconnectedness between agriculture and the country's culture, exploring how the land shaped the Cape Verdean people and how agricultural practices influenced the creation of the rich Creole culture.

This objective aligns with Cape Verde's commitment to sustainable development. Cape Verde's participation was framed in Resolution 64/2023 of the Government of Cape Verde, which established the National Commissariat (CN) for Expo Qatar 2023. The National Commissariat also includes representatives from various institutions.

The Commission was headed by the Commissioner General and Director General of Economic Cooperation and Development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Counselor José Correia, the Deputy Commissioner General, Mrs. Zilca Paiva, the Garden Director, Mr. Ângelo Martins, the Coordinator of Pavilion Activities, Mrs. Mirza Brito and the Consultancy of Architect João Vieira.

The Cape Verde pavilion offered visitors a comprehensive view of the country's reality. Highlighting its geostrategic location, the pavilion presented multiple leisure and investment opportunities in Cape Verde. A special focus was given to strategic sectors such as tourism, blue economy, renewable energy, transport and digital economy.

Cape Verde's participation in Expo 2023 Doha was part of the Cape Verdean Government's strategy to promote the country in Qatar and the Middle East region, mainly as an attractive destination for investment and tourism. This event also served to strengthen Cape Verde's relations with the Middle East region.
