The malfunction did not affect the reactor or release material to the outside, but it altered working conditions within a controlled area. The NNR reported that workers who may have been affected were examined and that the calculated doses were below those associated with a dental X-ray.
The result points to low exposure, although this does not eliminate the need for individual verification of measurements, the use of protective equipment, and the measures taken to prevent contamination from spreading to other areas of the facility.

An isolated incident could result from a one-off malfunction, but three occurrences linked to the same type of power loss require knowing if corrections were made between the dates, if the units were tested before work resumed, and why operations continued under similar technical conditions.
The regulator conducts inspections and assessments regarding the adequacy of the measures taken by Eskom. The audit will reconstruct the timeline, confirm the recorded levels, indicate how many workers were examined, and verify the corrective actions applied after each occurrence.
These elements will allow us to determine if there was a contained anomaly or an operational pattern that requires stricter regulatory intervention. The Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant supplies about five percent of South Africa's electricity and has received permits to operate beyond 2040, which increases the need for independent oversight.
In a strategic infrastructure, security depends on the absence of external damage and the ability to correct internal failures, review procedures, replace vulnerable equipment, and take responsibility before a limited incident escalates.
