CAN 2023: Angola Advances to the Quarter Finals.

In the first game of the round of 2023 of the African Cup of Nations (CAN 16), Angola, despite starting badly, with a red card in the 3th minute, showed its determination by beating Namibia by an impressive 0-XNUMX.

The Palancas Negras attack line was impressive, with the Gilberto-Mabululu-Dala trio. Angola wins a victory in a direct elimination game for the first time and will now face the winner of the Nigeria-Cameroon game.

The game started with a lot of rhythm, with consecutive offensives. Each team responded to the opponent's attacks. The only thing that both lacked was precision in the last pass.

1ª Part

This first game of the CAN 2023 round of 16 began intensely after just XNUMX minutes, with an incident that led to a Red Card for the Angola goalkeeper.

Namibia pressed hard from the start, with Muzeu recovering the ball from the feet of Gaspar, the Angolan central defender. Following the play, the Namibian striker tried to make a hat to the Angolan goalkeeper who quickly came out, but saved with his hand outside the area. Direct red justified, for Neblu and free at the entrance to the area.

The new goalkeeper, António, recently introduced, stretched well on the free kick taken by Hotto (20 minutes), in what was the second shot on goal in the game.

Namibia took the lead in this CAN 2023 game, with its numerical superiority. Shalulile had another chance to score in the 23rd minute, but his header, coming from a long cross, went over the bar. Mabululu, very active, responded against Angola in the 25th minute, cutting a cross from the right. But a Namibian defender deflected the ball for a corner.

Against all expectations, Angola, in a moment of weakness, opened the scoring with a magnificent play (38 minutes). Right winger Gilberto dominated in his lane and made a pass to captain Fredy who crossed to Gelson Dala who only had to push the ball into an empty goal.

In the 40th minute, disoriented, Namibia saw its defender Haukongo receive a red card for a gross foul against Mabululu. And in the direct free kick taken by Fredy, Gelson Dala headed unstoppably to score his second goal and extend the lead to 2-0 for the Palancas Negras.

The statistics at half-time were almost identical. Angola with 49% ball possession and Namibia 51%. Each team had 4 shots, with 2 aimed at goal.

2ª Part

Shalulile had the opportunity to revitalize his team in the 47th minute, but the forward did not have luck on his side. Angola has the first opportunity with the incredible Mabululu in the 61st minute. He narrowly missed the target with a cross from the right that went wide of the post.

The Palancas Negras appeared in force and, in fact, Mabululu scored a few minutes later with an elegant shot, scoring the third Angolan goal in an ultra-quick counterattack (66 minutes).

Shalulile almost scored in the 67th minute to reduce the deficit; but, once again, his header when he received a cross went wide, scraping the left post.

The fourth goal was not far away. Namibia was already in meltdown and every Angolan action represents a danger. Fortunately, the pace slowed and Angola adopted a more controlled approach with the departure of all their attacking players.

In the 84th minute, in a beautiful Angolan move, Luvumbo stood out with a low shot that didn't hit the target. Hanamub, in a solitary run, finally warmed the hands of the Angolan goalkeeper in the 85th minute.

Luvumbo, in the 90th minute, almost scored CAN 2023's goal, with a long-range shot that hit the Brave Warriors' side post. At the final whistle, Angola won 3-0.
