South Africa: Son of Former Zimbabwe President Arrested

According to the South African news outlet SABC, Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe was among those arrested following a shooting at his home in Johannesburg that injured one person. SABC also reported that Mugabe was seen handcuffed at the entrance to his house after police arrived.

In turn, South African police stated in a press release that an employee was shot and is in critical condition. The authorities did not identify the two men taken in for questioning in the press release, but indicated that they are investigating a case of attempted murder.

"The motive for the shooting is, at this stage, unknown and police investigations are ongoing." "This was stated by police spokesman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi."

Robert Mugabe led Zimbabwe for 37 years before being deposed in a coup in 2017. He died two years later in Singapore at the age of 95.
