The Brazilian President argues that Angola is a country that "fulfills its duties" and that, therefore, Brazil should not be afraid to sell or lend resources to this African country.

Brazilian President Lula da Silva told Angolan head of state João Lourenço today that Brazil will seek to facilitate the sale of aircraft from Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer to Angola through a financing line.

"Embraer is available to restore the Angolan fleet of Super Tucano aircraft and supply new aircraft," Lula da Silva told the Angolan leader during a press conference at the Planalto Palace in Brasília.

"It's good for Brazil, it's good for Angola, I think we can make an effort and help Angola buy these planes", reinforced Lula da Silva.

To this end, Lula da Silva promised that he will forward the request to the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) “to finance the sale of the three KC-390 aircraft that Angola wants to buy, a replacement for the Hercules.”

Embraer is the world's leading manufacturer of commercial aircraft with up to 150 seats. It has more than 100 customers worldwide and maintains industrial units, offices, service and parts distribution centers, among other activities, in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe.

In Portugal, it is the majority shareholder of OGMA – Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal, in Alverca, with 65% of the capital.

Brazilian President Lula da Silva and his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, signed memoranda of understanding today focused on strengthening cooperation between Petrobras and Sonangol, as well as in the agricultural sector.

The agreements were signed at the Planalto Palace, after a bilateral meeting between Lula da Silva and João Lourenço, who has been in Brasília since Thursday on a three-day state visit.

João Lourenço and his wife, Ana Dias Lourenço, arrived at the Planalto Palace, in Brasília, at 10:00 (14:00 in Lisbon), having been received by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his wife, Janja.

At the Planalto Palace, the two leaders held a bilateral meeting preceded by a memorandum signing ceremony and a joint statement to the press. This was followed by a lunch at the Itamaraty Palace, headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a meeting with representatives of rural producers.

Brazil was the first country to recognize Angola after the country's independence on November 11, 1975, and the two countries have maintained a close bilateral relationship, with cooperation agreements in various areas.

João Lourenço had previously been in Brazil to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Lula da Silva, who took office for a third term in January 2023. The Brazilian President visited Angola in August 2023, his first visit to an African country during his new term and his third official trip to Angola, following trips in 2003 and 2007.

On Saturday, the last day of the visit, João Lourenço will meet with African ambassadors on a mission in Brazil and members of the Caribbean Community (Caricom).

João Lourenço arrived in Brazil on Thursday for a three-day state visit, at the invitation of Lula da Silva, having already held meetings with Davi Alcolumbre, president of the Federal Senate, the upper house of Brazil's parliament, with Hugo Motta, president of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house, and, lastly, with the president of the Supreme Federal Court, Luís Roberto Barroso.
