Brazil on Friday welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron for announcing France's recognition of the State of Palestine, which is expected to take place at the opening of the next United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

“The Brazilian Government welcomes President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement on July 24th of France’s recognition of the State of Palestine.” 

“Brazil urges all other nations that have not yet done so to recognize Palestine as a sovereign state and urges all countries to work towards its full membership in the United Nations.”

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted this in a statement. The Brazilian diplomatic note also reinforced the defense that the solution to the conflicts between Israelis and Palestinians will be achieved with the creation of two states.

With an independent and viable State of Palestine, living side by side with Israel, in peace and security, within the 1967 borders, which includes the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On Thursday, Macron announced that France will recognize the Palestinian state next September, according to a letter sent to the President of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Mahmoud Abbas, which provoked outrage in Israel.

“True to its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine.”

Macron announced on social media, where he shared the letter sent to the Palestinian leader. Furthermore, the Brazilian government announced on Wednesday that it is in the "fine phasel” of the process to formally join the action that South Africa brought against Israel at the International Court of Justice for genocide.

Brazil condemned Hamas' attacks on Israel that left 1.200 dead and more than 250 hostages, triggering the current conflict in October 2023. However, it also harshly criticized the Jewish State's response that has led to the deaths of 60.000 people in Gaza so far, most of them children.
