Government and Municipality deliver Pavilhão Desportivo Maiomona to the population of Ribeira Brava (S. Nicolau). This development opens up the possibility for children, young people and younger people to practice sports, in spaces and quality infrastructure.

The Prime Minister, Dr. Ulisses Correia e Silva, presided over on Friday the 22nd of July 2022, the inauguration ceremony of the Pavilhão Desportivo Maiomona, in Ribeira Brava, island of S. Nicolau considering that this infrastructure:

“It highly values ​​a fundamental area of ​​development, which is Sport”.

Accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Carlos Monteiro, the Head of Government said that:

“This venture opens up the possibility for children, young people and younger people to practice sport, now in quality spaces and infrastructure, whether for sports initiation or for development as a person, or for competitions”.

“It is an investment resulting from the good partnership between the Government and the Municipality of Ribeira Brava and we want to continue on this path to create more and better conditions for sports”.

He advanced in his speech and in the presence of several citizens.

According to Ulisses Correia e Silva, Cape Verde has already given evidence that:

“Even without the best conditions, compared to other countries, we produce champions. We were runners-up at CAN in handball and we are in the world championship for this modality”.

“We've already done great things in terms of basketball, football, individual sports and nautical sports. Which demonstrates that we have talent, a Diaspora that amplifies our recruitment capacity, and that gives us the conditions to compete at the highest level”.

“The government is doing its part. We are preparing to launch a new investment package in sports infrastructure at a national level”.

“São Nicolau will be contemplated with this Sports Pavilion, and includes the grass football field in Juncalinho, thus fulfilling a commitment we have to the island”. underlined.
